I love computer science, and I'm doing very well in it. I just want to broaden my skill base and branch into something else. I'm coming up with too many choices since I don't want a masters in CS. What will allow me to make the most money? What will be the easiest to find work in? What will complement my undergrad the most?
I have a BS in Computer Science, I want a masters in another field, which masters should I get?
You may want to try electrical engineering or computer engineering, so you can get knowledge on the hardware aspect of computers as well as your software experience from the CS degree. Seems to me like that would improve your general knowledge on computers and give you more opportunities close to your original field. Personally, i am going for a Physics degree with a CS minor because my plan is to create physics engines for computer games :)
Reply:Most will say Business Administration, and its a very good path. But, it has to be your choice.
Keep in mind that by the time you get a Masters in anything, nobody will pay any attention to your old CS degree. In 9 months its marketability will be near zero for getting you a good job.
You could try Economics also to complement your technical knowledge, but better yet might be to go for Philosophy of Ethics while building your career by working in technonogy full time.
Reply:You ask two questions - which is more complementary and which would make you the most money.
It is also obvious to say that you should only go into areas that you are actually interested interested in.
All that said,
Complementary: masters in Computer Science
Most money: probably a masters in financial engineering - go work for a financial services firm design computer applications for trading/market analysis.
Note: plenty of people make money with a masters by going to work for a company like Google, but finding the next Google can be challenging, making it a bit of a lottery ticket.
Reply:just master the software engineer, software developer,networking,etc.....im first year computer science too.... i love that course...but many saying that computer science is dead.... nothing! computer science is still alive.....
Reply:You can get a MBA. MBA Graduates typically make a lot of money. With a MBA degree you can move to upper management, but still manage in the IT field.
