Is there a difference betwen computer science and software engineer?

Theirs two schools I want to go to one offers a degree in Software engineering and the other in Computer science.. ist therer really a differenc? I mean I looked at the classes taught in each one and they seem so similar.

Is there a difference betwen computer science and software engineer?
As I've seen it, Computer Science focuses greatly on the theoretical aspects of computers. The algotithms, math, etc. Software Engineers typically focus more on the creation of a product.

Example, going into my third year of Computer Science I've been asked to only write a handful of useful programs. My friend going into his third year of Software Engineering has wrote software which could actually be distributed to people. He just has no idea what the hell he's doing.
Reply:Software engineer relates to only software it is a nerrow term whereas Computer science canbe either Hardware or Software it is a broad term.

If you want to be allrounder go for Computer Engineering.
Reply:In my country, Computer science is something general, The students of computer science, learn about the general purpose of anything related to computers! e.g. They don't go to the depth of computer programming...

But In software engineering, The student should focus on computer programming and learn it almost completely!...
Reply:software engg. focus on only the software developmed techniques i mean who to make, immplement and use the software to your computer hardware.so languages are usually taught in these course like C,C++,ave and advanced.where as computer engg comprises both hardware and software,so it is upto you which feilds is suitable for u,if u have leadership germs so go to software or if u have germs like working under others so go for computer (hardware) .as hardwre is depends upon software.
