Whats the difference between a computer science major and a computer engineering major?

what are some good schools for these majors. nothing elite i have around a 3.0 and average act. anywhere in the us is okay for me.

Whats the difference between a computer science major and a computer engineering major?
The difference is getting a job.

My brother, a computer programmer, said computer engineering is definitely superior to computer porgramming now because so many computer programming jobs are going overseas.

My advice? Double major in something else besides computer engineering. Your degree has to last you your entire life. Get it in a field that has a chance of keeping you employed for the next 40 years, if at all possible. Health care is a sure bet. Check the Labor Bureau for info on their projections.

My brother got his masters at George Mason U in VA. A good solid school, maybe not so competitive, though.

By the way, electrical engineering is best of all. My brother says that elec. engineers actually like their work, whatever that means. My brother writes code as he is a software programmer and he gets paid very well, but again, those jobs may be disappearing overseas sooner rather than later.
Reply:Computer science deals with creating the box and systems and improving it. Design and theory. Design of the Bios the Instruction Set.

Computer engineering deals with connecting it all together at the work site. Connectivity. Pieceing it all together and making it work for the end user.
Reply:Computer Science is emerged completely into the programming aspects of computers. You would be starting with simple introduction to programming classes such as C++ or Java and eventually go on to work on a senior project revolving a piece of software you would develop.

Computer engineering on the other hand provides you the opportunity to work with the hardware aspects of computers. You would be taking classes of both software and hardware related topics for computer. In this major, your senior project could also involve you building some form of hardware, and programming it as well.
